Today I dropped in to take some photos of the inside of the refurbishment of the Village Hall.

Thanks to the few people who have been busy, it looks really good inside!

The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary invites the whole family down to the East Anglian Falconry and Countryside Fair at the Mid Suffolk Showground on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October from 10am to 4:30pm.

Visitors will witness main ring displays of horseback falconry, ferret and net work, carriage driving, dog agility, horse logging, traditional falconry and the ever popular chance to meet some hounds!

There will be a huge variety of countryside exhibitors including equine supplies, craft stalls, organic beauty products, gardening, sculpture and pottery. A diverse range of food stands will also be on hand to tempt your appetite or why not take advantage of free donkey and carriage ride?

This weekend of activities is in aid of the refurbishment of the now cramped and inadequate hospital for injured wild owls and birds of prey at The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary. Plans for the new hospital include larger consulting rooms, better rehabilitation facilities and a new viewing room that will enable visitors to unobtrusively view the work of the hospital.

Admission to the fair also includes entry to the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, situated just a couple of steps away.

 

Police are appealing for help to identify an individual in connection with an incident of theft in Stonham Aspal.

It happened on Thursday 24 August when a video camera that the owner installed was stolen. The camera was installed following theft of cash from an honesty box located outside the premise on Debenham Road, close to the junction with Stowmarket Road.

The victim uses the honesty box for selling of eggs from the front of the property.

Police would like to hear from anyone who knows the individual in the image or anyone who has knowledge of the theft.

Dear All,

Do you have experience in painting and decorating to a reasonable standard? Yes… then we could really use your help! Instead of spending our contingency fund on Painting and decorating, we could replace the Kitchen shutter, pay for the carpet in the new bar/meeting room, and possibly replace the windows in the kitchen and bar/meeting room.

Two of us have made a start by priming the new walls and ceiling in the Bar/meeting room, so do you have a few spare hours over the weekend to rub down walls and woodwork, fill any holes, or paint walls and ceilings and undercoat and gloss the woodwork? If you can’t paint and decorate then we could use your help to clean up some of the floors of plaster etc.

If you can help in any way please let me know by return email. Some of the jobs need to be completed this weekend in readiness for flooring to be installed next week.

We really could make a big saving.

Fibre Broadband is now available for most of Stonham Aspal, run from the cabinet near the Tennis Courts.

• First, check if you can get it. Use the BT Fibre Checker clicking here using your telephone  number. Some areas such as East End Lane are covered from the new Cabinet on the A1120/ Crowfield Church road, and you will have to wait a little longer.
• Then order Fibre Broadband from your existing supplier: They should have updated to show you are covered, and there should be a way of ‘upgrading’ your service.

ZUMBA IS BACK!! While we wait for the hall be completed we will be starting back on 13th September 6:30-7:30 in Crowfield Village Hall. As soon as the hall is ready we will be back in and ready to rock it. Everyone is welcome.

Suffolk Police are calling on local communities to help tackle incidents of lead theft from churches.

The advice follows reports of attempted theft in Ipswich and Woodbridge in recent weeks; however there are concerns that some incidents are not being reported which limits the Constabulary’s ability to take action.

Police work in close partnership with churches to help detect and deter crime, and encourage all to consider the installation of lighting, CCTV and/or roof alarms.

Rural churches, in particular, are often targeted due to their isolated locations so members of the public are asked to report any suspicious activity they see. Stealing a large amount of lead takes time and a reasonably large vehicle to transport it, so any early reports will assist police in locating the offenders.

Chief Inspector Stuart Grimsey said: “We are asking local people to take an interest in their local church whilst they are out and about. If you take the dog out for a walk, or go for a stroll, don’t ignore anything that you think looks out of place – report anything you think may be suspicious to the police.

“Communities can act as our eyes and ears, and by pulling together to note suspicious activity, we can deter thieves and help keep these historic buildings safe.”
